FLORIDA COMMERCIAL SOLAR · GUIDEOUC Commercial Solar Export & ROI Review
For an OUC account, solar production used onsite and energy sent to the grid need separate financial treatment.
Verify the account cohort and effective dates
OUC’s rooftop solar page describes export credits for customers with completed application and payment, where applicable, from July 1, 2025: Community Solar Energy Rate through June 30, 2030, then Retail Fuel Rate. It also flags November 1, 2026 rate changes. Confirm the account cohort, grandfathering and current schedule rather than applying a universal retail export credit.
Make self-use part of system sizing
Compare building operations with expected solar production. A warehouse with low daytime use may have different economics from a hotel. Avoid sizing solely to available roof area or annual spend.
Prepare the application record
OUC describes contractor submission after permit inspection and utility review of the application. Follow the current official interconnection requirements for the property, equipment and meter work. An illustrative calculator is not an approval to connect.
Request a bill-based review
Provide tariff and account details, roof records and annual usage. The preliminary financial report should show onsite value, export value and unverified inputs separately. Save a copy of the rate schedule used so later revisions can be explained.

View and edit scenario assumptions
Demonstration assumptions: 12 W per usable sq ft; 1.5% annual maintenance; 0.5% annual degradation; 2% annual energy/maintenance escalation. No applied credit, depreciation, demand reduction, replacement cost or export revenue. A reviewed report must include project-specific replacements and tax timing.

- Year-1 tax benefits applied
- $0
- 25-year cash NPV at 8%
- -$239,620
- Cumulative cash payback

Model assumptions & honest limits
- Illustrative cash-ownership model; not a tariff simulation or engineering proposal.
- All cost, yield and escalation defaults are demonstration assumptions, not sourced market quotes.
- Fixed charges, financing, property-tax savings and storage are excluded.
- Net operating savings are reduced by the entered effective tax rate; tax capacity and deductibility require review.
- Annual usage inferred from assumed energy-only share of spend; replace with bills.
- Export value is zero until applicable utility terms are confirmed.
- Tax benefits are zero until a project-specific schedule is confirmed.
Tax benefits start at zero pending project review. This estimate is not a quote, tariff simulation or guaranteed return.
